FRP PIPES AND CONNECTIONS: SYNONYM OF LIGHTNESS AND HIGH RESISTANCE
FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) is an innovative product produced through the Filament Winding process, a technique used to produce hollow and lightweight components, but with high resistance. Products made by this technology are usually those with a constant cross-section, such as pipes. The filaments are impregnated or coated with a thermosetting resin, wound tightly around a mandrel, and allowed to cure to a hard layer. The technique can produce components of low weight and high rigidity. To achieve the desired low mass and low inertia in the finished article, the mandrel is removed after the resin has cured, to leave the product in its final hollow condition.
Durability and lightness
FRP is extremely lightweight. To give you an idea, FRP pipes are a quarter the weight of steel and are 25% lighter than aluminium. Its low weight confers a series of advantages, such as ease of handling, lower transport costs and reduction in assembly time. Another aspect that makes FRP an incomparable product is its high resistance, which translates into a 50-year service life.
The FRP pipe manufacturing process is simple and sustainable. Part of the resin used in the manufacture of tubes comes from PET recycling, which makes the product ecologically correct. In addition, FRP pipes do not propagate flames in case of burning and do not release toxic gases into the atmosphere.
FRP is among the materials with the lowest roughness coefficients, that is, a smooth interior surface that requires less energy for fluids to circulate.
